Easy Party Salmon Spread for the Brain Dead

Last weekend, we went to a party to which we were asked to bring an appetizer.  I offer you my offering of Party Salmon Spread.

This is one easy peasy appie!  Ideal for a Brain Dead Thursday installment.

This is perfect when you want to serve a little something before a dinner party or when you just want a little nibble with a drink for you and your special someone.

This is great encrusted with chopped walnuts which you can just pat right on top of the room temperature spread.  With so many nut allergies around I skipped this step for the party.  (Anaphalaxis is not a highly desirable form of social entertainment, I would think.)

Here's what you'll need:

                                       1 can boneless skinless salmon
1 package cream cheese, 8 oz (250 gms)
                                       1 green onion, trimmed
                                       1 T horseradish
                                       1.5 t liquid smoke*
                                       1 t lemon juice
                                       1/2 t salt
                                        * You can find this is the condiment section of the grocery

Just add everything to the food processor.
Onion, liquid smoke, horseradish, lemon juice, salt...

the salmon...

Give it a few whizzes...

Cut your cream cheese block into 4 pieces.
Add to the processor.

Keep whizzing until it's all completely blended.
It's DONE!
Now you can just put it into a bowl and go to it!

But, if you're making it for guests or for a party,
you can go a little fancy with the steps below.

Line a small dish with plastic wrap.

Put the salmon spread into the lined bowl.
Remember to work it into the corners!

Pull together the corners of the wrap to cover the spread.
Pop it into the fridge for at least an hour.

When you're ready to plate...
Open up the wrap to expose the surface of the spread.
Invert your serving dish on top of the spread.
While holding the two together tightly, flip!

Now simply peel off the wrap.
Let it come to room temperature for ease of spreadability.

This is my appie ready to take to the party.
I decided to pair it with seaweed rice crackers.
(You know, salmon and seaweed living in ocean harmony and all that!)

At the party, I complete my final assembly.

Easy Party Salmon Spread for the Brain Dead!
Cheesy, smoky with a hint of salmon
and the zest of lemon and horseradish!

Fabulous for any party or even a party of one!
