Havarti and Red Pepper Quick Bread

Who doesn't love the smell of fresh bread out of the oven?  Its intoxicating aroma can make you go mad with desire - to eat it of course.  How long can we keep ourselves from biting into that slice, butter melting into its surface, anointing it with even more pleasurable taste.

Completely satisfying on its very own lonesome, I want you to imagine how you can elevate your taste experience with this yummy bread.  Toast and top with smoked turkey, honey ham, shaved rare angus beef or,  dare if you will, more Havarti - all would be wonderful companions to this flavourful quick bread.

The best part?  No pesky yeast to deal with!

Make this ASAP.  I dare you to hold back from eating the whole thing yourself.  And if you did, really, who would blame you!?

Here's what you'll need:

                                         Pre-heat oven to 350°F

                                         2 C all purpose flour
                                         2 t baking powder
                                         1 T sugar
                                         ½ t salt
                                         2 T butter or margarine
                                         1 C grated Havarti
1/4 C finely chopped red pepper
                                         2 T dried chives
                                         ¾ cup milk
                                         1 egg

Mix dry ingredients together in a bowl.
Cut  butter into dry ingredients with your fingers.
                                                It should look like this.
Stir in cheese, pepper and chives.
Mix the milk and egg together.

    Pour into the flour mixture.
Stir it together.
It should look like this.
A ball of dough that pulls away from the bowl.
Grease a 1 pound loaf pan.
Pour the mix into the loaf pan.
Bake in the middle of the oven for 50 minutes,
or until a knife comes out clean.
Let it cool in the pan for 15 minutes.
Remove and let it finish cooling on a wire rack.
Cut with a serrated knife...
